Sunflowers are a beautiful yellow flower that typically remind me of the end of summer. There are about 70 species of the flower and sunflower season is between early July and late August in Ontario, Canada. They seem like such a happy flower and actually rotate during the day to face the sun. If you’re looking for what to do in Ottawa this summer, you definitely want to visit these sunflower farms.
Wilmead Farms (Cumberland)
There is a huge sunflower field in Cumberland, Ontario on the side of the road and is a huge draw for photographers and influencers alike. The field is located on Dunning Road about 1 km south of the Innes Road/Dunning Road intersection and is a beautiful field of sunflowers on the side of the road. The farmers have left an area cleared for people to walk in to take photos and enjoy the sunflowers, as well as an inlet to take photos (like the one below) in the field. Please be mindful and don’t walk further in to the field to take photos.
When to go: middle to end of July Cost: free, by donation
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm (Edwards)
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm has a beautiful sunflower field in the summer. This is a great stop for families for kids to play on antique tractors and farm equipment and see farm animals, and purchase sunflower bouquets!
This Ashton Sunflower Field is run by a family of seven. The farm and animal sanctuary is located in the far west end of Ottawa with two bloom fields: the south field blooms in early-mid August and the north field blooms in the end of August. The farmers have left space for paths through the fields to enjoy, take photos and wander through a field of yellow.

Stephanie and Jakob bought a farm and have created a quirky, Instagrammable experience through the sunflower fields. There is also a north and south field for extended bloom times and you can book pods for personal photoshoots.

Central Experimental Farm (Closed 2021) (Ottawa)
Another free field and in the heart of Ottawa are the sunflower patches in the Central Experimental Farm on Merivale Road/Baseline Road. Unfortunately it was not planted in 2021 because people trampled the field in 2020 for photos.
