Happy New Year! It’s back to work for me after a lovely Christmas holiday. With a new year often comes resolutions to be better. I thought I would write down my resolutions to try to stick to them.
Every year, my resolutions revolve around getting fit. This year, I’m going to take a different approach and see how it works out.
Instead of making my goal “Lose Weight” (which never seems to work out well for me) I’m going to focus on living a healthier lifestyle. This year, I’m going to use the S.M.A.R.T. goals technique to actually lose weight by setting healthy lifestyle goals weekly and monthly. One weekly goal I’ve been working on in the past few months is to eat fruit or veggies every time I eat. Another goal is to set the number of times I want to do cardio/yoga/weight training rather than “go to the gym 5x a week” to make sure I have a variety.
Not only is this goal for my body, but for my mind as well. I’ve also been working on this one, but I’m trying to read more than watching TV, reading news rather than “fluff” pieces on social media, studying for an exam to become licensed in the states as well as Canada for my job, learning more about photography, etc.
To stay on track, I’ve made myself a year long calendar where I can write a weekly goal to achieve.
I love travelling internationally but I want to explore more of my “backyard”. There are so many amazing places within a day’s drive from my house that I’m going to try to get to this year. This includes hiking, camping, and even just exploring more of Ottawa.
This is another one I’ve been working on for a while, but I watched the True Cost documentary where they explain the impact of the “Fast Fashion” industry i.e. clothing made for trends rather than for long-lasting wear. This year, I’m continuing to work on making conscience choices when purchasing items that I know I will wear frequently (not just for one event or holiday) and will last. My goal is to buy less than I did in 2017. I use an app called Stylebook to track my wears and purchases.
