Rock Dunder

“Hiking is a bit like life: The journey only requires you to put one foot in front of the other … again and again and again. & if you allow yourself opportunity to be present throughout the entirety of the trek, you will witness beauty every step of the way, not just at the summit.” – Unknown

I’ve heard great things about the Rock Dunder hiking trail and lookout, as well as seen some great pictures from friends. I didn’t know how much better it would be in person.

Cost: $10/vehicle or $50/season pass. Parking is limited so I recommend arriving early to guarantee a spot.
Dates: May 15 to November 15.
Time: Dawn until dusk.
Tips: If meeting at Rock Dunder, I recommend parking along Highway 15 and taking one vehicle to the parking lot. It’s a short walk to the trail head from Highway 15/to the parking lot but you will still need to pay the $10 fee if you walk up. I also recommend bringing a picnic! The hike is fairly easy so lugging a full lunch (or breakfast or dinner) isn’t too cumbersome.

My first hike of Rock Dunder (and also of the summer 2017 season) presented lush greenery and blue skies as far as the eye could see. I managed to only take pictures with myself or friends and not just of the scenery. Also, I did plan my outfit to stand out in pictures. Every opportunity is a chance for photography improvement!
