I wrote about hiking in Gatineau Park here and even closer to home is hiking the Greenbelt in Ottawa, Canada. I picked up a pair of snowshoes this winter and made it almost every weekend. Stoney Swamp is in the southwest end of Ottawa and there are a few trails: Jack Pine Trail, Lime Kiln Trail, Chipmunk Trail and the Beaver Trail. Along the Jack Pine Trail and the Lime Kiln trail you can feed the chickadees right out of your hand! The trails are easy walking and well marked. All the trails are easily accessible from main roads with free parking. Check it out if you’re in the area!
I plan to do more exploring of Ottawa’s trail network this summer. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
